Kele Okereke and Russell Lissack met at a festival in 1999 and spent years unheard until a demo pressed on Steve Lamacq and Franz Ferdinand's singer got them airplay and a deal with Wichita. Silent Alarm, produced by Paul Epworth and released in 2005, landed in the middle of the post-punk revival and outsold most of what surrounded it, largely by sounding more anxious than fashionable.
